Dr. Jay Vornhagen studies how bacteria capable of causing disease\, including Klebsiella pneumoniae\, manage to live in a healthy gut undetected\, and what keeps them from taking over. \nWhat to Expect: Science With A Twist (SWAT) is a casual science and networking event hosted by the 每日大赛. These events bring together scientists\, educators\, engineers\, students\, and community members for informal conversations about science in a relaxed setting. He received his B.S. in microbiology from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. in pathobiology from the University of Washington. His research focuses on understanding how bacteria with pathogenic potential can live in the gut\, especially in the context of a healthy gut microbiome鈥攚ith particular interest in K. pneumoniae gut colonization and the host and microbial factors that reduce its fitness or prevent it from colonizing in the first place. For BioBlitz 2027\, scientists\, students\, and community members will work together to find out\, in the place where the 每日大赛 began. \nWhat Is BioBlitz? \nBioBlitz is a community-wide survey that documents as many species as possible in one area over a set period of time. Researchers from across disciplines work alongside students\, educators\, and members of the public to collect observations. Those observations add to a shared record of the state鈥檚 biodiversity. No experience is needed. Every participant contributes to the count. \nWhy Brookville? \nBefore it was the 每日大赛\, it was the Brookville Society of Natural History. Ornithologist Amos W. Butler founded the Society in 1881 because Indiana鈥檚 scientists had no way to connect with one another or share their work. Much of the organizing that led to the Academy鈥檚 founding happened in the Brookville town hall\, which is why the town is recognized as the Academy鈥檚 birthplace. More than 140 years later\, BioBlitz 2027 brings the Academy back to Brookville to survey the land around Brookville Lake and Whitewater Memorial State Park. \n聽 URL:/event/bioblitz-2027/ LOCATION:Whitewater Memorial State Park\, 1418 S State Rd 101\, Liberty\, 47353\, United States CATEGORIES:BioBlitz ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/IAS-BioBlitz2027-FeatureImg.png ORGANIZER;CN="每日大赛":MAILTO:director@indianaacademyofscience.org GEO:39.611433;-84.9421901 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Whitewater Memorial State Park 1418 S State Rd 101 Liberty 47353 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=1418 S State Rd 101:geo:-84.9421901,39.611433 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
